(Squeakers or upside-down catfishes)
Etymology: Synodontis: Greek, syn, symphysis = grown together + Greek, odous = teeth (Ref. 45335).
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Freshwater; benthopelagic. Tropical

Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 12.4 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 3202)
Oviparous (Ref. 205). Inhabits small streams, main rivers and flooded pools (Ref. 30558). Extremely abundant in ox-bow lakes and river cut-offs in the Lower Tana River (Ref. 39831). Breeding occurs shortly after floods, when ripe fish enter small streams leading to floodwater pools, where they breed; this migration is rather sudden, adult fish migrate in large schools upstream over a period of less than a week (3 to 4 days); one or two additional smaller migrations may occur after the main peak; the stimulus triggering this migration is probably closely connected with rainfall (Ref. 96595).

Oviparous (Ref. 205). Distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205).
