Etymology: Chaunax: Greek, chaunax, -akos = a conceited man (Ref. 45335); atimovatae: Named for the trawler "Atimo Vatae" (Madagascan for "deep south"), from Fort Dauphin, from which many Madagascan specimens were collected, including those in the type series.
