Etymology: Schismatogobius: Greek, schisma, -atos = crack, fissure + latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335);  alleni: Named for Gerry Allen for his extensive and enthusiastic work on the freshwater flsh fauna of Papua New Guinea.

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal spines (total): 7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 9. Schismatogobius alleni can be distinguished by having the following characters: pectoral fin with 17 rays; pectoral fins banded; membrane in flrst dorsal fin posterior to spine 6 not connected to base of spine of second dorsal fin; transverse row of papillae on midcheek between row D and d; male with ventral surface of head plain brownish with blackish pigment on frenum and pelvic disk; female with ventral surface of head blackish, black pigment surrounding whitish mentum and middle of lower lip; and frenum whitish (Ref.116768).
